Description

Description

I’m currently running the Government Office for Science, supporting the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor. In my first week in the job the priority topics were the effect of volcanic ash on aeroplanes, nanotechnology, and whether badgers should be culled. I love the diversity of subject matter we get to handle, and the varying nature of our work, which ranges from the immediate task of advising during some civil contingencies, through to projects looking out a hundred years into the future.

Over time, I’ve worked in the Civil Service, and in the private and not-for-profit sectors. I trained as an academic geophysicist, but I’ve generally either been doing strategy, or jobs that involve science in decision-making.

I’m happy to provide job shadows, and we regularly recruit interns through the Civil Service system. Let me know if you are interested.
